Friday May 1

 Hello again

Old man winter is not giving up!!  The blizzard began on Tuesday night, and did it ever howl!  No school on Wednesday.  By Thursday the winds had subsided, but not without leaving 20 foot mounds of snow that had to be cleared to open the roads.  So, another school closure.  This morning, it was blowing pretty good--about 50k, but I got suited up and headed out.  I usually go by the road, which is not too steep.   I got half way down, and then ran into the 20 foot snow bank--really not safe to go through, so home I came, and stayed put.  The school was open.  Most of the staff live on roads that were ploughed, so they were able to travel.  School was open.

It is about 7 pm, and the wind is up, the snow is falling and blowing, and we have yet another yellow alert blizzard warning.  Looks like we will be in our little homes well into next week with the forecast.  It is not cold, about 10 below, but it is the wind and the drifting snow that is the problem.  The loader hasn't been up here since last Monday, so the roads are now closed.  My neighbour, who is charge of the maintenance for the school buildings, is totally snowed in.  In the 4 years that I have been here, I have never seen weather like this.  We did have a lot of sunshine and the snow was disappearing fast.  I thought it was spring-ha!

The students in grades 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 must take government exams--so the weather is really not helping with that.  In the elementary grades, we just soldier on until the end.  I am putting everything I can into the basics, reading, writing and arithmetic!!  We are also doing some really great art stuff--they love it all--especially when I call for hide and seek to break up the morning!!

I sure have been enjoying the Gregory Azid tutorials online--my clarinet buddies--take a look, you might learn something!!  The best thing about the online stuff is that no one yells at you if you get it wrong, and you can keep repeating the lesson until you get it!!  Today, I downloaded some great technical exercises, and I spent the day working through them.

By my calendar, only 17 more school days, not that I am counting them or anything!!

I am thinking about all those Cherry blossoms I am missing!!

My neighbour's truck on Thursday morning.  Can't see it today!

Working on my card collection!

We are having fun with art.

Our spring flowers.

It looked this last weekend, with the little buntings.

We made delicious sugar cookies and ate every last one!!

Good work deserves a tat!

Our book marks work!!  We collected and pressed the flowers last August!

Yup--the blizzard!
