 Hello

This is my third attempt to get a blog out.  I have been having so much trouble with my internet--we have star-link, and I have been sharing it with friends down the road.  Sometime it works, sometime it doesn't.  I noticed that my new neighbour has a really strong signal so I asked him if I could share it.  He agreed--and he is getting it free from his work.  So, for now, I have it for free too.  If at some point in the future he has to pay for it, I will share the cost.  No more internet insecurity!  Hurray!!

The weather has been horrid.  Snow, big winds of over 50 k per hour, sleet and rain have been with us all week, with temperatures dipping below zero!  Today, it is sunny, and the wind has gone down, so I will try to get out for a big walk tomorrow.  If the weather keeps good, the primary side of the school will go on an excursion up the Payne River, going west.  We will berry pick, fish and seal hunt.  I have no idea how to shoot the gun, but I guess I will be learning.

The secondary kids went for  3 days last week for an Inuit excursion.  They did caribou hunting, fishing and whale hunting.  Looks like they all had a great time--what a fabulous time for them to learn about the Inuit culture from the elders.

JP, a Nunavik police officer, was here last week to do a bike rodeo.  He brought 70 brand new bikes and helmets to give away.  What a great opportunity for our community and 3 other communities.  He is in charge of the Police Pr, and what better way to be welcomed into town by giving away things, and hosting the big hot dog lunch.  I met him in Ivujivik a couple of years ago--he was doing coffee with the cop at the Co-op.

I have been busy trying to get my head around the special ed job that I am doing, and I just put the finishing touches on a mega report about the status of special ed in our school.  I am afraid that the findings were not good because there has not been anything happening in the last 2 years.  I am hopeful that we can "make a miracle", one step at a time, and get the show on the road soon.

There still is time for music.  I practice everyday, even if it is for just an hour.  I am using this opportunity to work my way through the 352 page Klose book of clarinet technique.  It is pretty daunting, but as a dear friend of mine said, you start at the top of the page, and work your way through it!!  Sure is fun to do the play-a-long.  I especially like the Hal Leonard series because you can adjust the speed of  the sound track.   I have been working on Charlie Parker's Yardbird Suite, and it is do-able for me at the slow speed--so each day I crank the speed--one day I will be able to do it at the recommended speed.  I also am working on clarinet studies--really enjoy playing those.

Lego is a big hit.

The beauty of the land and sky.

The bike rodeo done on footl

Yahoo--winning those bikes and helmets.

Stone sculptures are proving to be a big hit.

Yep--it is darn cold!
